Sustainability Policy

We at Higgi Limited strive to follow and promote good sustainability practices. Working towards reducing the environmental impacts identified from all our activities and to encourage our suppliers, hauliers and subcontractors to do likewise.

Responsible supply chain – Our approach

We work with our suppliers to help them meet our ethical, health and safety, social and environmental standards and improve their performance through monitoring, audits and improvement activities.

We expect high standards of all our Suppliers, Hauliers and Subcontractors. These are set out in our Business Ethics Policy and are integrated right from the start of our engagement and will continue through the whole of our working relationship. We conduct annual audits to ensure compliance and if suppliers consistently fail to meet our standards, and don’t follow corrective measures we will not continue to work with them.

Sustainability is embedded in our supplier management programme, and we work closely with our suppliers to help improve their performance. To target improvements further down the supply chain, we ask our suppliers to request similar standards from their own providers.

We commit to:

  1. Minimising environmental impacts in the areas of waste, water, energy and air quality.
  2. Double-sided printing where possible.
  3. Re-using or recycling of office waste, including paper, cartridges, and redundant equipment. Any excess packaging gift/postal boxes, bubble wrap, tissue paper etc are brought in for re-use. Tea bags continue to be composted for a team member’s allotment. Biodegradable tea bags are preferred – eliminating the need to remove the tea leaves prior to composting.
  4. Redistribution of excess food from home/allotment/other – purchased/given or homegrown to avoid unnecessary waste.
  5. Participation in recycling schemes – Please refer to HIG QPM Waste Management Policy, section 1 ‘Re-use’ and section 3 Types of Waste, for more information.
  6. Reduce the energy consumption of office equipment by utilising power saving modes and adhering to our ‘Energy Saving – Switch off when not in use Policy’

We are committed to accountability and transparency in our sustainability performance. In the case of traceability any given number of pallets of a particular product that is packed in 1 session is marked and identified by a batch number i.e.06051501 (The last 2 prefixes relates to the type of packing.) Any pre-packed material received into store is marked up with the Higgi’s PO number. Please refer to HIG 04 16 Batch Numbering System – Explained, for full details.

This policy continues to evolve and is reviewed at the same time as the environmental review is carried out. Our progress is recorded within our team meetings.
