Environmental Policy

Higgi Limited is a family run business, specialising in the distribution, handling, and warehousing of chemicals. This organisation recognises its involvement in the transportation of chemicals and thus the seriousness of a potential pollution risk. In doing so the Company has systems in place to reduce this risk.

This policy is the key document against which the performance of our Environmental Best Practises are assessed.

  1. To continue developing an Environmental Management System that meets the requirements of the Green Dragon Environmental Standard 2016 Level 2 and beyond. This standard remains at the forefront of our Environmental Management System, the flexibility and willingness to change, through Environmental Best Practices and our commitment to the protection of Human Health and the environment.

  2. We aim to continuously improve our environmental performance through our Team Meetings, quarterly Management Reviews, internal audits and to encourage our suppliers and hauliers to follow suit. We work closely with our hauliers to consolidate loads to ensure our carbon footprint is kept to a minimum.

  3. To comply with all applicable environmental legislation and regulations covering the Company's activities to minimise our environmental impact and the requirements of our customers and any party having an environmental impact on the Company. All approved Contractors, Sub-contractor, Hauliers and Suppliers are encouraged to do the same.

  4. Monthly analyse of energy consumptions of gas and electric help to monitor our energy usage both of which are fixed for three years. Water consumption is biannually. Where possible, we exercise our 'switch off when not in use' procedure and the use of natural resources i.e. natural lighting and ventilation is preferred.

  5. Waste minimisation, in line with our Waste Management Policy. Reduce the use of harmful materials helping to prevent pollution from our activities. As existing cleaning products are replaced, we are endeavouring to use plant/animal friendly alternatives i.e. Fairtrade items. All stationery items are now purchased from a local family-owned company.

  6. Promote a high level of environmental awareness amongst our employees through our training and communication procedures, conversing this policy effectively throughout the Company. There are many recycling programmes offered and we will endeavour to adopt a scheme that doesn’t have cost implications to the company or the environment. The collection of soft plastics is encouraged, and staff are happy to take any collected in work to the local collection points.

  7. Acquire materials and services from sustainable sources. Since 1st April 2022, the plastic packaging tax came into force, to pre-empt this all-existing packaging has a percentage of ‘Re-gran’ polymer. All future orders will have 30% recycled content. All our IBC’s and our 210ltr drums are reconditioned and have UN Certification. All packaging materials comply with applicable regulatory requirements. Encourage existing suppliers to adopt our environmental principles and develop/amend their environmental system.

  8. Higgi has decided to attend all CBA Seminars/Workshops etc online as this eliminates the need to travel given the current economic climate and helps our carbon footprint.

  9. This policy continuously evolves within our existing ISO 9001-2015 Management system. It is reviewed annually or as required, so ensuring compliance and giving an opportunity to update the aims and objectives set out in our Environmental Improvement Plan as we progressively move forward helping the company reduce its environmental burden to as low as is reasonably achievable.
